Great weeding in an abandoned garden.

My wife's parents had run large scale paddy fields and vegetable fields till 1999 when her father fell serious ill (stroke), causing paralysis of the right side of his body.

Since our marriage I and my wife have helped her family to care their fields.
Today I and my wife weeded "one" of the vegetable fields which has been abandoned for months since last weeding. As you see the first picture, the field has become literally "Jungle of weed"! We always use engine-driven cutters for fighting against the jungle. Even if we used the cutters, the weeding took half a day.

We could find many kinds of wild flowers and insects there. The jungle is like a "sanctuary" for them. The flowers shown below are not identified but I think a kind of chrysanthemum and many insects like grasshoppers and mantises were found there.

You are a very good son in law, Takaeko! Do your wife's parents still grow rice?

How nice that even when working hard to help your family, you still took time to notice the beautiful flowers and insects. It's almost a shame that you had to destroy their home...

Weeding is a back-breaking task although its done by a cutter. Its also frustrating because in no time at all, they will come back with more vigour! Anyway, with that in mind, you still have time to admire the flowers and wild life there..Happy Weeding! :)

Thank you,Hazel. Well my wife's father is not able to care his field, much less growing rice. And her mother died 2 years ago. He and her sister decided to lend some of their rice paddy fields to farmers in their neighbor.

We don't have any plan to plant vegetables or flowers there since the field is too large for me and my wife to care it.

>Ellada
Well I hope I can help my wife's family as long as I can have time.

During a hard job like weeding I could feel it lucky to see beautiful flowers and funny bugs. Even if we destroyed the home, weeds will regrow sooner and create new home for them.
How about my slide show of Sakura photos? I'm happy if you like it!

Yeah, maneuvering the cutter is so hard and tiring. If we have plans to plant some vegetables there in the future, the exhaustion would be alleviated...

It is very nice of you to help taking care. I am sure they appreciate your effort very much.

Maybe you can use just a small part of it for having flowers or vegetables, only enough so that it wouldn't be overwhelming . Or, just trow some not so wild seeds around, see what happens.

Hi Takaeko; your Sakura pictures are just amazing. A thousand times better than my humble display...
