Traditional dish of potatoes.

I think Japanese dishes may reminds you of Sushi and Miso-soup.
But I like to introduce a traditional home-style dish in Japan.

The dish shown above is called "Nikujaga".

That is a potatoes stewed with sliced beef and onion with soy sauce based soup.
If you have Japanese friends around you, I believe he or she knows it and can miss the taste.

I and my family sweated in harvesting potatoes, carrots, and burdock roots in a hot and humid weather.

Don't rain on my parade!

In the mid of rainy season, it was so clear sky today in Nara where is an old city in Japan and my 2nd farming garden is located that I and my family could not miss the opportunity to harvest potatoes, carrots and burdock roots.

I planted them 3 months ago the garden and I expected planting potatoes is a good idea since climate this year has been so unusual ( cooler, and much rain) that potatoes output in Japan could be so low  and the retail price could be so high. And Yes it is!! Just 1 potato is about $1 in our local market.

Carrots and burdock roots is still not mature but I pick up a few of them for a test. And I'm happy to see them well-grown.

Egg-plant

←In a few days,I can harvest that.

Organic fertilizer has been added to my tomatoes.

In the mid of seasonal rainy season, my tomatoes are getting ripe and bigger.

We have to remember that good taste tomatoes need not only sunshine, airflow, water but also fertilizer. We can find many kinds of fertilizer in local home centers and I always pick up 2 kinds of them.

1 Organic fertilizer: composed of powdered oyster shell and Nitrogen.
2 Fermented cow manure

I added them to my tomatoes and other veges as you see it in the left photo.
The soil in my garden is less fertile and I have to keep on adding fertilizer constantly.

My tomatoes is getting ripe,,,,,!

They are still green and hard.
I'm looking forward to harvesting red and ripe ones.

rain cover for tomatoes

Today I set up a rain cover for my tomatoes.

Rainy season has started and rainy days will continue through at least 3 weeks.Heavy rain can agent can act as agent in spreading " Gray mold incidence"  among tomatoes.

The cover has been "constructed" by me and my wife in "120 minutes" costing about $10 with plastic poles and clear vinyl sheets.

Today's harvest has been served with mayonnaise.

← I love this!!

Today's harvest

Today I found some cucumbers are grown, and then I harvested them.
I cut them into sticks and serve them on dinner table.I love to dip them with mayonnaise.

Since colder temperature and much rain than average have continued thorough the last few months in Japan,my cucumbers,tomatoes,egg-plants and even weeds seem to delay their growth.

launching my first blog on my small vegetable garden!

I start my first blog on my small vegetable garden I rent near to my house.
I began farming in Osaka and Nara in Japan last year and have experience of raising cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants and so on.

I'm very happy if many people who are interested in farming as a hobby visit my blog and we can exchange ideas and opinions about farm and gardening.

I launched the blog not only for introducing my farming but also for keeping my English fluent.
If you find a mistype, grammatical errors on my English,Please tell me and correct it.
